The Making of the Milky Way 9-Patch

This Milky Way 9-Patch is brand-new and beautiful! Made by members of Little Traverse Bay Quilters Guild, the quilt pattern was published in Darlene Zimmerman's Granny Quilt Decor. Two features stand out in this vintage design: small 9-patch blocks set "on point" and block placement reminiscent of the traditional Trip Around the World.

Construction began in the Spring of 2018 with distribution of little plastic sandwich bags containing starched and carefully cut strips of 1930s repro fabrics in pastel shades.. By June 1st, members had returned 389 Nine-Patch blocks, each 3-1/2" square.

A small weekly sewing group (fantastic quilters!) undertook the task of assembling the blocks. One member added borders; another pieced the back in an appropriate design; a third person made and added 214 Prairie Points. (Wow!)

When all major parts were in place, the quilt was placed into the hands of a member who is a longarm quilter extraordinare. She brought back the most beautiful work! Don't you agree?

With the quilt, the winner will also receive two pillow shams made with the same 9-Patch blocks and reproduction fabrics.

Good luck!
