Our March meeting was full of new quilts and new quilt patterns. Click on Delphine's black and white Fox at left for a good look at what's been done --and what's new that you and your best quilting buddy can dive into!

Such a good meeting we had at the Charlevoix Library in February! Christina Abramowski introduced us to the ancient art of spinning, both "drop spinning" and "wheel spinning." See the pictures by clicking on our fuzzy little friend at right.

Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy made a personal appearance
at our January 2018 meeting, bringing stories of how and where they came to be. They also brought doll beds and doll quilts --and some kid-size quilts for our pediatric patients at McLaren Northern Michigan.

Serv hearts

A new charitable support group has sprung up, thanks to Johanna Kutcher. Gathering under the name Servant Hearts, sewers and crafters will gather at Johanna's home once a month to make cold weather items needed by families in the Petoskey area. These include knit hats, mittens and scarves, as well as scrap quilts. When finished, all items will be distributed through the Mana Food Pantry. The group meets the fourth Thursday of the month. The next gathering is set for 1pm, Thursday, April 27 at Johanna's home at 931 Intertown Road, Petoskey. For more information, call Johanna at 231-838-4831.

Anyone have extra yarn? Servant Hearts has some knitters who will gladly turn out hats, mittens, etc. for folks who need them. Please contact Johanna if you can donate.

Did you know there's a dedicated group of quilters for our local Hospice Chapter?

Our sister quilters meet once a week to cut and sew quilts for patients at Hiland Cottage, the hospice facility maintained by Vital Care Hospice of Little Traverse Bay, and part of McLaren Northern Michigan. Every patient admitted to Hiland Cottage is given a 5'x7' quilt made to fit an extra-long twin hospital bed. Patient families are allowed to keep the quilt. Since May of 2016, these ladies have made and distributed 80+ quilts!

Hospice patients supported at home may receive a lap quilt measuring about 30" x 40" (or 3' x 4') .These ladies have some critical needs: batting, larger pieces of fabric and backing materials. They also need the assistance of long-arm stitchers to help finish the quilts. If you can provide any of these materials, please call Barbara Postelnick at 231-347-0798.
